This wonderful 8 day tour package includes the mysterious experience of visiting Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Arequipa, Colca Canyon and Sacred Valley.

Itinerary

Arrival in Lima, the “City of Kings” famous for its Spanish Colonial architecture, extraordinary museums and cuisine. Lima is internationally recognized as the “Gastronomic Capital of the Americas”, and its cuisine is considered among the most diverse and exquisite in the world on par with French cuisine. Upon arrival a host will meet and assist you in transferring to the hotel and in registering.

City Tour
Tour of Modern and Colonial Lima – This half-day tour visits both the colonial and modern sections of Lima. Colonial sites include the lovely Plaza Mayor, the Government Palace, San Francisco Church and the exquisite Torre Tagle Palace modern day seat of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In modern Lima, drive along the exclusive residential areas of Miraflores and San Isidro.

Lunch at Huaca Pucllana Restaurant
With a marvellous view of an architectural monument, this classic destination on the Lima gourmet circuit offers many excellent Peruvian ingredients-meat, fish shellfish and innumerable vegetables – prepared in accordance with our gastronomic tradition and with contributions from international cuisine. Chef Marilú Madueño reinterprets the peruvian recipe book and gives each dish a contemporary touch using flavours, aromas, textures and colours from today and yesterday. The stupendous pisco sour is a favorite of regulars and occasional visitors alike.

Chef Federico Ziegler painstakingly focuses on the flavors of each element that comprises every dish. His popular “grilled local doncella fish over yellow potato, baby veggies, and fine herbs emulsion” is the perfect example of how by showcasing simplicity Chef Ziegler creates a masterpiece.

Early morning transfer from the hotel to the airport for a short but spectacular flight over the snowcapped Andes to the oldest inhabited city in the hemisphere, Cusco, at an elevation of 11,440 feet. Immediate transfer to the Sacred Valley at 8,200 feet of altitude. Upon arrival a host will meet and assist you in transferring to the hotel and in registering. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax. Reflexology treatment at hotel.

Peruvian cuisine has long charmed the palate of visitors to the country with its unique flavours. At El Huerto Restaurant we have brought together a delicious fusion of Urubamba’s finest kept secrets, Peruvian traditional zest and international delicacies. A warm candlelit venue, El Huerto Restaurant’s atmosphere is of delicate and sophisticated dining with a spectacular riverfront vista.
We carefully nurture a large variety of organic vegetables, spices and fruits in the grounds of Hotel Rio Sagrado, and pride ourselves on obtaining the best locally sourced ingredients to supplement those already grown on property, resulting in naturally authentic Urubamba cuisine.

Morning train ride aboard the most luxurious railway service in South America to enjoy the unbelievable sights of the “Lost City of the Incas,” Machu Picchu. Perched 8,200 feet above the valley, it was hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungles for 400 years until discovered by Hiram Bingham of Yale University in 1911. Archaeologists believe that the Inca “Virgins of the Sun” took refuge from the Spanish Conquistadors here. Guided tour of the Sanctuary and plenty of free time to study the mysterious site.

Brunch and four-course dinner and cocktails are aboard the Hiram Bingham.

Afternoon “Tea Time Goodies” at the Orient Express Sanctuary Lodge, located just a few steps from the Inca citadel is also included.

Free morning to enjoy one of the most incredible sights on earth, the sanctuary of Machu Picchu. Take as much time as you need to study these magnificent ruins, hike the steep stone-paved trail of Huayna Picchu, the pyramid-shape mountain above Machu Picchu for a breathtaking view of the site, or stroll to the Inca Bridge a secret entrance used by the Inca’s army or walk toward the Inca Trail to find the historic Intipunku or Sun Gate. Entrance fee and local guide included. Lunch at hotel. Afternoon return train ride.

Tour of Cusco and Nearby Ruins – Visitors are caught up in the excitement of touring the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, a delightful combination of Inca and colonial architecture. The tour visits important landmarks such us Cusco’s Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and Koricancha “The Temple of the Sun”. This tour of the oldest continuously inhabited city in the western hemisphere also includes the nearby ruins of Kenko, Puca-Pucara, Tambomachay as well as the Sacsayhuaman fortress, an imposing example of Inca military architecture.

Just a few metres from the Main Square the restaurant is built on the ruins of the old Hatun Kancha or palace of Inka Yupanqui. With a pleasant and contemporary environment, it has a varied menu of italian food and pastas which stand out for their originality and Peruvian ingredients.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Arequipa. Departure towards the highlands passing through Yura-Pampa Cañahuas and La Pulpera with good possibility of observing groups of wild vicuñas and fighting cattle. The road to the Colca Canyon reaches a high point of 13,000 feet before dropping down to the valley, an area of breath taking landscapes surrounded by terracing and snow-capped peaks. Far below, at a depth of 10,000 feet, the Colca River winds along the bottom of the canyon, the world’s deepest.
After the beautiful drive to Colca we recommend that you let us spoil you. After being shown to your Casita and unpacking, take a trip to our Spa we you can unwind and acclimatise before dinner from our restaurant. Which serves tantalising mix of Andean and modern cuisine created using fresh produce from our farm.

Not to be missed is a trip to the Cruz del Condor, leaving at 6:30am the bus arrives at Cruz del Condor to see the birds rising on the warm currents.
After an hour watching the condor hike to Priests Cross and a ride to the volcanic crater.
45 minute hike passing cactus forests and the magnificent sight of the lagoon. Brunch is then served. Return by bus – to the resort and enjoy a relaxing walk around the herb gardens or explore our farm.
Finish the day with a relaxing dip in your private plunge pool and dinner.

On the third day we recommend that guest relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of their surroundings, indulging in our spa treatments and immersing themselves in the natural beauty of the Andean landscape before your transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima and connecting flight home.
