Arrival in San Jose International Airport where you will be met by our representatives. Shuttle transfer to the Barcelo San Jose.
In the morning, your trip to Tortuguero National Park on the Atlantic Coast will begin. You will depart to Limon crossing Costa Rica from west to east, descending into the lowlands of the Caribbean coast. We will stop for breakfast and continue through a great variety of life zones, like a cloud forest, dense jungles, rivers, lakes and waterfalls that plummet from high cliff into a lush green sea of tropical growth. In Hamburgo de Siquirres, an area surrounded by banana plantations, you will board a river boat where our exciting tour will begin. During the two hour trip, you will be able to observe various animals and vegetation. Late afternoon you will arrive at the Mawamba Lodge in Tortuguero for check-in dinner and overnight. Optional tours available at 6:15am to admire the awakening of the wildlife of Tortuguero. Return for breakfast, then another tour to explore the Tortuguero National Park. Return for lunch and leisure time. There is an optional afternoon tour to the canals. During the turtle season (July to September) you can take a walk on the beach where you may see turtles nesting. Sky Trek is a thrilling zip line circuit that directly follows the Sky Tram starting at the observation platform. Here, all geared up and in harness & helmet, you will start riding down on a zip line track stretching across canyons and in between treetops, the exhilarating adventure of zip lining down the mountainside begins; ultimately returning you to the starting point at the main building. This is the most thrilling zip line in the country. It’s something you probably never thought you would do…but sure glad you did!.
Arenal Volcano Hike and Tabacon with dinner $175 per person
The Arenal Volcano tour starts with a drive to the active Western side of the volcano. Once there you will embark on a hike on a trail, which traverses the rainforest and crosses over a large lava flow from 1992. It is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife and magnificent lava rock formations.
The hike ends up at a viewpoint, where if the weather allows, you will be able to feel and see the different factors that makes the Arenal an active Volcano. During the tour, our experienced guides will provide interesting and educational information regarding the history of the majestic mountain and the Arenal Volcano National Park. The tour concludes with a relaxing stop at the mineral hot spring you will go on to relax at one of the best hot springs in the area where you will revel in the cleansing and rejuvenating effects of the thermal waters. Tabacon is nestled at the base of mighty Arenal with a view of the Volcano towering in the background. Here, thermo-mineral springs flowing from Arenal run at a soothing 102 F through a maze of pools, waterfalls and exotic tropical gardens. The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is considered to be of the best sites on the continent for bird watching. In addition to an abundance of birds, Caño Negro is also home to many exciting animals, such as sloth, three types of monkeys, caimans, lizards, bats, and a variety of flora native of the wetlands. Our tour to this beautiful region leaves from La Fortuna and travels approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to Los Chiles, a rustic village just three kilometers from the Nicaraguan border. Then we begin our boat ride to the wetlands.
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve Expert Guided $99 per person
We arrange three- hour guided tours in the Monteverde cloud forest reserve with a naturalist guide.
The hike is not strenuous and is at a gentle pace but you have to be in reasonably good physical condition. The guides point our interesting plants and birds and do their best to find mammals.
Animals are hard to spot but whether you see them or not the guides make the forest come alive with their extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna and history of Monteverde.
